A relaxing & charming haven, set in breathtaking scenery in this idyllic corner of the lakes.
We are now closed for our winter break.
Re-opening March 23rd 2016.
No rest for the wicked, we will be taking the kitchen apart and cleaning everything but the kitchen sink, which we leave to last. The lounges, dining rooms and hall will all been cleaned and the hotel readied for Christmas with the Read family. As I write this in mid December, plans are forming for some serious meddling. Come the New Year, marmalade will be in full production and the hall, Room 1 and Room 6 will be in complete disarray, along with several members of staff! Walls and woodwork will be stripped, sanded and made good, then wallpaper and paint re-applied in copious amounts with panache, verve, coffee and a creeping sense of panic.
If time allows, in the garden we hope to build some raised beds in front of the green house and make better use of the south facing wall to produce more homegrown produce.
All in all a busy late winter and early spring, touch wood everything will be ready for late March, it usually is.
When bought by Mr & Mrs Read in 1969 as a 5-bedroomed guesthouse, creature comforts were somewhat limited. There was no central heating, of course no en suite facilities, just one shared bathroom for the guests’ use, and electric bar-heaters for warmth in the bedrooms at a cost of a shilling in the slot. Such luxury!!!! Behind the scenes a traditional scullery and kitchen complete with creel and coke-fired Aga, two-bedroom living accommodation and four darling little children, all eager to help!
Carefully updated over the years, the now 18-bedroomed hotel, set in a 1/2acre of beautifully kept garden, with magnificent views over Morecambe bay, still maintains the elegance and tranquillity of a bygone era.
We are again very proud to have retained our place amongst the AA’s top hotels, with our Inspectors’ Choice and Red Star accolades and a Rosette for our meals, as well as a Gold Award from the English Tourist Board (Visit Britain), inclusion in the Good Hotel and Michelin Guides, thanks to the continuing efforts of Andrew, Mark, Bruno, in fact all our staff, upstairs and downstairs.
We serve food to residents and non-residents throughout the day, starting with breakfast for the early riser beginning at 8:30-10:00am. Followed by morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas, finishing with dinner in the evening from 6:30-7:30pm
We also serve 2 and 3 course Sunday lunches and can cater for parties in an idyllic and restful setting in which you can enjoy excellent food and first class service.
