What The Awards Mean
These are the exact definitions given by the AA and ETC

AA AA Star Inspectors' Choice Hotel
Assessed and announced annually, the AA's Inspectors' Choice Awards recognise the very best hotels in Britain and Ireland. These hotels offer consistently outstanding levels of quality, comfort, cleanliness and customer care. From large luxury hotels to smaller, owner managed hotels, Inspectors' Choice hotels stand out as the very best in the British Isles, regardless of style.

AA AA Star
What to expect from a one star hotel. Polite, courteous staff providing a relatively informal yet competent style of service, available during the day and evening to receive guests. The majority of rooms are en suite and there is a designated eating area with a reasonable choice of food and wines available.

Rosett Rosette For Food
Chefs should display a mastery of basic techniques and be able to produce dishes of sound quality and clarity of flavours, using good, fresh ingredients.

ETC Silver Star Hotel
These are awarded to hotels which not only achieve the overall quality within their star rating, but also reach the highest level of quality in those specific areas which guests identify as being really important for them. They will reflect the quality of comfort and cleanliness you will find in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and the quality of service you'll enjoy throughout your stay.
